1. Don’t use salt to melt ice on your driveway. The salt will get into your lawn and kill the grass along the edges if you have a dry season come spring.
2. Cutting your lawn too short will hinder the growth of the roots and cause more weeds to come out. It’s better to only cut the top third of the grass for longer roots and fewer weeds.
3. I know this is hard to believe, but do not bag the grass! Instead leave it on the ground as mulch. It will give you a greener lawn in the long run and cover up those unsightly brown spots.
4. Don’t cut the grass when it is wet. You cause the grass clipping to clump together and give an opportunity for disease to kill your grass.
5. Don’t mow at high noon either. It not only stresses you out, it stress your lawn out also. Try to do the cutting in the evening so the grass has a chance to recover before it gets hot again.
6. Do not water a few minutes every day. This causes a shallow root system. Water for about an hour once a week to get deeper root system.
7. Let mushrooms be. They are breaking down old tree stumps, animal waste, decaying matter. As they break it down they are feeding your grass the nutrients it needs.
